A New Chapter for Structural Dynamics

The American Crystallographic Association is pleased to share news from our publishing partnership with AIP Publishing: Structural Dynamics is entering a new chapter with the appointment of Mark Wilson as Editor-in-Chief.

Since its founding, Structural Dynamics has filled a distinctive role within the structural science landscape. The journal was created to showcase research that goes beyond static structure to explore motion, time-resolved behavior, and the dynamic nature of materials and biological systems. Over the years, it has become a trusted venue for work that bridges crystallography, scattering, spectroscopy, theory, and computation — reflecting the increasingly interdisciplinary character of our field.

Welcoming New Leadership

Professor Mark Wilson brings to the role a strong appreciation for both scientific rigor and community engagement. His research background and professional service align closely with the mission of Structural Dynamics, and he is well positioned to guide the journal as it continues to evolve alongside the science it represents.

As Editor-in-Chief, Professor Wilson will work with the editorial board, authors, reviewers, and our publishing partners to further strengthen the journal’s scope, visibility, and impact — while maintaining the high standards that authors and readers have come to expect.

With Deep Thanks to George N. Phillips, Jr.

As we look ahead, the ACA would also like to pause and express its deep gratitude to longtime ACA member and former Editor-in-Chief George N. Phillips, Jr. for his exceptional leadership and service to Structural Dynamics.

Throughout his tenure, George played a critical role in guiding the journal through an important period of growth and maturation. His steady leadership, editorial judgment, and commitment to scientific excellence helped shape Structural Dynamics into the respected publication it is today. Just as importantly, his service reflected a longstanding dedication to the ACA and to the broader structural science community.

The Association is grateful for the time, care, and vision George brought to this role, and we thank him for his many contributions — not only to the journal, but to ACA more broadly over the course of his career.

Looking Ahead

Structural Dynamics remains an important part of the ACA’s mission to advance and support structural science in all its forms. As experimental and computational approaches continue to expand our ability to study dynamic systems, the journal will remain a vital forum for sharing innovative ideas and results.

We look forward to this next chapter and invite the ACA community to continue engaging with Structural Dynamics — as authors, reviewers, and readers.

Please join us in welcoming Professor Wilson and in thanking George Phillips for his outstanding service and leadership.
