Letter from the ACA Executive Director

Dear ACA Members, Colleagues & Friends:

Structure Matters! After several years with the ACA I can tell you that “structure” takes all forms. Most, in this group, are familiar with this term as it relates to the study of “the structure of matter at atomic (or near atomic) resolution” however, the ACA is also a structure. In terms of structure, the ACA is a strong association with a long history and a bright future. I am both honored and excited to take on the role of Executive Director and to join forces with such a passionate, dedicated group of members.

I first want to thank everyone for the warm welcome, as well as ACA Council for their faith in my ability to lead this respected organization. I would also like to thank Brian Toby, Joe Ferrara, David Rose and Lisa Keefe for their support and assistance in helping me transition into this position. I am prepared and excited to take on the opportunities and challenges this position brings.

Looking towards the future, the ACA will continue to pursue its mission of connecting scientists interested in the structure of matter. With that mission comes several initiatives that I am excited to be a part of as ACA Executive Director, including:

  • Welcoming scientists who utilize all different approaches, not just crystallography, to the society so that everyone can benefit from a shared collective.
  • To help foster a welcoming, inclusive environment for all members and friends of the society.
  • To help ensure the financial stability of the ACA so that, through meetings, workshops, and publications so that members can continue to share the study of structure for the benefit of humankind.

I am eager to work with members to preserve and build upon the incredible historic structure of the ACA while simultaneously looking toward the future with growth in mind. Luckily, the ACA has an amazing support structure including an enthusiastic, committed Council, a knowledgeable staff, and a community full of members who never fail to say “yes”. With all of this “structural” support I am excited to get started!

I look forward to working with you, learning from you, and, together, solidifying and expanding the ACA structure. Please feel free to reach out to me at any time at [email protected] or (716) 898-8600.

With gratitude,

Kristin H. Stevens
ACA Executive Director
