ACA Election Candidate

Timothy Stachowski: Candidate for General Interest SIG Chair Elect

I am honored to be nominated for the ACA General Interest SIG Chair. I have been a member of the ACA since 2019 and have presented my work several times in various sessions, including in the General Interest session. In my short time in the ACA, I have found it to be my professional home with great science and even better colleagues. I am excited about the opportunity to be involved in promoting and growing the community. Since 2020 I have been a postdoctoral fellow in the Marcus Fischer Laboratory at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital where we explore the protein conformational landscape for ligand discovery primarily using variable temperature X-ray crystallography. I did my Ph.D. work with Eddie Snell at the Hauptman Woodward Institute using solution X-ray scattering to probe radiation sensitivity in proteins. As a wet lab biologist by training who has transitioned to mainly computational work, this breadth of experience has exposed me to many areas of structural biology. This will help me identify topics that fall out of the scope of other SIGs and ensure scientifically diverse sessions. If elected, I also plan to program science from researchers across career stages to share new topics to the community at large, promote collaboration, and to facilitate networking for early-stage scientists.
